Also know as a mosquito eater.
But seems that they don’t eat mosquitos. They live for 10-12 days and apparently might not eat anything at all. But they do look like giant mosquitos. And in early April, there are lots of them inside the house.
Common in California, but can also be found in western Nevada and Oregon, as well as in northern Baja California (Mexico). Lifespan is 2-3 months.

Mila and Lisa saw one with Lily (who jumped!) while eating crepes early in the morning at the flea market. When threatened, it sticks its bum in the air and emits a foul smell (we didn’t smell anything except strawberry and chocolate crepe).

Despite their name, no known millipede has 1,000 legs, although one rare species has up to 750. Common species have between 34 and 400 legs. There are approximately 12,000 named species.
